Nearly 13,000 jobs were added in Salt Lake County in the last year, a job growth rate of 1.6% year over year. Overall, the county’s unemployment rate hovers around 3%, which the Department of Workforce Services considers a healthy economy.

Home to both Brigham Young and Utah Valley Universities, there’s certainly a need for homes for rent in Utah County. In fact, it has the second highest number of listings on KSL Homes. Rentals options regularly include nearly 300 apartments and 200 houses, as well as condos, townhomes and basement apartments.

Sitting just to the north of Salt Lake City, you may find desirable homes for rent in Davis County. While the majority of residents own their homes — nearly 78% — there are rentals available. Because housing prices are some of the highest in Utah, renting may be a more affordable way to live there. The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,500.

Depending on which city you choose, your commute time to downtown Salt Lake could be 30-40 minutes or less. The recently completed highway, State Route 177, has helped cut down on traffic times. There are several Frontrunner stations if you prefer to relax on the drive.
Job growth in Davis County is usually steady, with a 1.6% increase in new positions in 2024, an addition of nearly 2,300 jobs. Manufacturing had the most robust growth.
According to Niche, Davis County ranks third among the best counties to live in the state of Utah. Residents say it’s good for families, and they like the public schools. People appreciate the many paved trails, which are popular with walkers and bikers, as well as the large public parks. Davis is also home to Utah’s largest amusement park, Lagoon, and Antelope Island.

There are several areas with homes for rent in Weber County, in both the larger cities and in more rural areas. Ogden has the largest population, along with the majority of businesses and eateries in the county. It’s also home to Weber State University and McKay-Dee Hospital. The average rent for a two-bedroom in Ogden is comparable to Salt Lake County, about $1,600. You may pay less in the outlying areas.

About 41,000 jobs are available in Weber County each year, with a 1.9% job growth rate — on par with the rest of the state. The greatest increase has been in health care jobs, but there are career opportunities in areas such as business, education and transportation.

Cache County is still rural enough to offer a small-town atmosphere.
Logan is the largest city with homes for rent in Cache County, but you’ll find options in the surrounding areas as well. While there aren’t a lot of apartment buildings, many houses have been converted into apartment-like housing, especially in areas bordering Utah State University. Although there are over 140,000 people living there, the area has a laid back, small-town feel.

You probably won’t be commuting to Salt Lake City from Cache County — it’s more than an hour away. But if you can work from home, or have a job in the area, you’ll have some beautiful scenery outside your office window. The area is known for its green rolling hills and hiking trails. Need a job? About 1,300 new positions are created annually.
In the summer, get some culture at the Utah Opera Theater and some sun at Bear Lake. In the fall, you can hike along trails of brilliant colors and root for the Aggies at a USU football game. In the winter, spend time in the mountains snow sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling or regular ol’ skiing at one of the two resorts. In the spring, well, you can thaw back out.
