Beautiful Home for sale in Beautiful Nauvoo!
After over a decade of amazing summers in Nauvoo, we are selling our house by the Nauvoo temple. Our kids are grown up, and the summers of the kids leaving the house after breakfast and getting back sometime at night after a day of playing are, sadly, over.
Nauvoo was a great blessing to our family. If kids want to go fishing; Lake Horton is a 5-minute walk, if they want to canoe in the Mississippi, no problem. Want to ride your bike and study the scriptures in the library at Seventies Hall, 10 minutes away. Want to get lost in the history of Nauvoo? Just walk outside the front door. The Nauvoo temple is 398 feet away, about a 3-minute walk; you have a clear view of it from the front door.
Besides being in the thick of all that is great about the History of the church in Nauvoo, the home is also Downtown, so a 4-minute walk to the library, 3 minutes to the Fudge Factory or soda shop, or the Annie's Frozen Custard it 3 minutes away, and the house is about 2 minutes from downtown shopping and restaurants. As for a park with a playground, basketball, and picnic tables,? Well, the city park is right across the street.
If you love fishing or waterskiing, the Mississippi here is just north of the Keokuk damn, so it's more of a lake, and the fishing is fantastic, and so is the waterskiing and wakeboarding. Two public boat ramps are less than 5 minutes away; one is on the end of Parly Street, where the saints crossed the Mississippi as they fled Nauvoo.
Life here in Nauvoo is genuinely different, not only can kids be kids, but Nauvoo is much like Paris in the 1920’s for LDS culture. Many families summer here, you might not run into Earnst Hemmingway, but you will run into several leading thinkers, writers, and leaders in the church. Adults gather for last-minute potluck dinners several nights a week, mostly because we can't get the kids to come home for dinner.
Nauvoo also has a full schedule of festivals, besides the Nauvoo Pageant, throughout the year. Grape fest, Icarrian days, spring plant and burn, and many more are sprinkled out throughout the year, but our favorite is BOOTiful Nauvoo the weekend before Halloween. The town dresses up, Parades, contests, carnival rides and a Jack-O-Lanterns competition with over 500 of the most amazing Jack-O-Lanterns in the town square on display. See the pictures in this post.

1830’ pantry. See the pictures on this one. Back in the day, they built in a pantry that could be accessed from the summer kitchen to inside the home for the main kitchen. The cabinet was built into the wall, and cabinet doors and drawers were opened on both sides of the wall so things could be put away and accessed from both kitchens. This still exists in its original condition today. it's amazingly beautiful.
In its current configuration, the House sleeps 20 in beds.
The Nauvoo bus tour introduces the house as the oldest non-brick home in Nauvoo and was part of the Original lot the Nauvoo temple that was built on. It’s the Danil H. Wells estate, who let the Church start building the temple on his land, before they could even afford to buy it, and before he was even a member. Daniel H. Wells later became a counselor in the First Presidency.
The asking price is $210,000

Here is the bad.
We winterized the home, so we have not used the radiant heat since we bought it. It was working when we flushed the boiler out. The boiler was new in 2008 but has not been used since we bought the home at the end of 2013.
The house could use a new coat of paint. It's okay, but it's getting to be time.
The basement could use a bit of work; fine the way it is (stack stone foundation), but if you wanted to use it for more sleeping or play space, it would need work.
